Earth recycles, how about you?

The earth is made up of several subsystems otherwise called spheres, they interact to form a complex and continuous system. Everything we derive from nature has been there since inception-nothing is new. The spheres include;

  • Atmosphere (mass of air surrounding the earth),
  • hydrosphere (bodies of water),
  • geosphere/lithosphere (solid portion of the earth), and
  • biosphere (all life on earth).

The earth system is characterized by numerous overlapping cycles in which matter is recycled over and over again.  As rain falls of the atmosphere it reaches the geosphere where it is either absorbed into earth or joins up with water bodies, it is used up by plants animals and humans which after some time let it out into the atmosphere or geosphere as waste. When the sun comes up it goes through a whole lot of other processes converting it to vapors which rises into atmosphere and the whole process is repeated again and again. This is just an example of the water cycle the same interaction occurs with other resources in earth such as carbon and nitrogen.

There is no room for waste with earth dead plants and animal decay and becomes part of the soil, rocks are broken down by climatic factors to become part of the soil.

Then came along man to use up part of this gift of nature, however unlike nature, man has created waste from these resources with unmatched rate of exploitation, production and consumption, enough waste to pollute the atmosphere, distort aesthetic beauty of the geosphere, diminish life from the biosphere and hydrosphere and overall alter the natural recycling process.

Let’s take a cue from mother earth, turn your waste into resources by recycling today, that paper made from tree can be further recycled into paper, plastics made from oil can be recycled into other plastics or textile, metal drilled from earth can be recycled into other metallic products. Let’s turn our production industry into a production cycle where little or nothing is wasted. Earth recycles, how about you?
